Share Whether you are looking to outrun your chronological age, build a body that lasts, or simply feel more vibrant every day, you have likely used the EGYM BioAge score to track your progress. It takes complex fitness data and turns it into one easy-to-understand number: your biological age.
To ensure your tracking is as accurate as possible, EGYM is rolling out a massive global upgrade to the BioAge calculation. Leveraging data from millions of real-world workouts, this update delivers a highly accurate, scientifically validated indicator of your long-term healthspan (the years you live in good health).
Here is a look at what is changing, why it matters for your health journey, and answers to the most common questions about the update.
What’s changing in your BioAge categories?
The update refines how your score is calculated across the main pillars of fitness, ensuring that every point you earn is a true reflection of your physical performance.
Strength BioAge: A new level of precision
Maintaining muscle function is essential for staying independent and active as you age. We have updated the strength benchmarks using the largest dataset of real-world workouts in the fitness industry. The system is now incredibly precise, setting a tougher, more realistic bar to beat. If your Strength BioAge increases after your next test, it doesn’t mean you lost strength overnight; it’s simply become more accurate, giving you a clearer, more motivating target to work toward.
Cardio BioAge: Fairer and more stable
Your Cardio BioAge is now more specific to your age. This means your VO2max (how efficiently your body uses oxygen during exercise) is directly compared to the average performance of your exact age group to ensure an age-anchored assessment. We have also removed resting heart rate from the calculation of your Cardio BioAge. Because daily stress, caffeine, or a poor night's sleep can cause your resting heart rate to jump around, it isn’t a reliable marker of your long-term cardiovascular health, so for a more accurate result, we’re focusing solely on VO2max.
Metabolic BioAge: Focus on muscle mass
Muscle is the engine of your metabolism. To reflect this, we’ve added skeletal muscle mass (SMM%) directly into the Metabolic category. Low muscle mass is a major health risk as we age, so tracking it is crucial. We’ve also shifted Body Mass Index (BMI) to a fallback metric. This means that if you regularly undergo body composition scans at your gym to measure your actual body fat and muscle, your BMI won't affect your score at all.
Flexibility BioAge: Consistent precision
To match your other scores, your Flexibility BioAge is now also capped at a maximum of ±20 years from your actual age, ensuring your overall assessment is balanced and consistent.
